Research Scientist and Molecular Biology Assay Development Lead
2022 – 2023
Directed molecular biology assay development team, focusing on conceptualising and validating innovative qPCR methods for HLB bacteria detection in citrus. Developed and standardised high-throughput DNA/RNA extraction and purification protocol, enhancing efficiency in citrus sample processing. Screened ~5000 citrus samples from field trials to detect HLB with an improved qPCR method. Supported other project team to develop antimicrobial peptides to control citrus greening disease. Troubleshot technical challenges to maintain project momentum and continuity. Analysed experimental data, synthesised findings, and communicated results to project teams and external stakeholders, ensuring clear understanding of research progress and outcomes.
Conceptualised and validated a viability qPCR method, significantly improving HLB bacteria detection in citrus.
Developed a protocol for high-throughput DNA extraction and purification and PCR detection of HLB bacteria causing Citrus greening disease.
Designed and constructed different RNAi (dsRNA, Dumbbell RNA) constructs for controlling crop insect pest.
Analysed gene expression from RNAi-fed insects (Colorado potato beetle, Diamond back moth).
